I was reading an article about “Sexism in the City” from the Telegraph, and there was a very interesting paragraph about using the name Anne Boleyn as a sexism insult.
“As one of the growing number of women who have become increasingly intolerant of the rampant sexism that is said to be rife in the City, Ms Thompson, 36, knows that an alternative career will pay much less than the six-figure sum she commands with a hedge fund. ”But it was the new, derogatory nickname that some chinless twit in pinstripes thought up for me that was the last straw,’’ she says. That nickname was Anne Boleyn. ”It’s their favourite name for lots of women in the City. It means: ‘Great body, shame about the head’. Neat mixture of sexism and insult, don’t you think?’’”
I thought this was very interesting.
