Lady Jane Grey galoreee!!

There are two exhibitions about Lady Jane Grey in London:

1) National Portrait Gallery: “Although there are no certain lifetime portraits of her, this display will explore how artists constructed an idealised image of Lady Jane as a Protestant heroine and martyr. The prints chart her growing popularity, via the influential engraving in Henry Holland’s Heroologia (1620) to the sentimentalised history paintings of the nineteenth-century.” (already open thru July 11th)

2) National Gallery: Delaroche and Lady Jane Grey “examines Delaroche’s predilection for emotionally-affecting English themes and his involvement with the theatre, both essential components of his art. The exhibition aims to return critical attention to a major painter who fell from favour soon after his death, but to whom the public now respond with wide admiration.” (opens Feb 24th thru May 23rd)
